Fantasy Fest and the crowds have left Key West, and the water activities are coming. The World Championship Boat Races will be in town from Nov 6 to 10th! Always a good time to watch these drivers run the course in the main harbor from the water or from shore!
For us guides the boat races make a start our good wintertime offshore fishing. The blackfin tuna starts to show up in the shallower waters due to the water temp cooling down. I always get asked how long to book an offshore trip? The good news is in winter months the fish come closer to us. We typically travel 6-12 miles to get to the productive gulf stream waters. There we can catch blackfin tuna, mahi, sailfish, and wahoo!
If going offshore is not what you like to do, we offer reef and wreck trips where you can target barracuda, amberjack, grouper, yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, mackerel, and sharks! The best fishing comes from the reef in the winter because of the abundance of bait that gets pushed inshore.
For the anglers that do not want to deal with any kind of sea condition. We still offer back country trips fishing for sharks, tarpon, snapper, barracuda, and groupers. We stay in shallow water protected from any kind of wind. These trips are great for relaxing, catching some lunch, birdwatching, and catching some big species like the lemon shark or bull shark. We have two boats that can run these trips, so if your party has fewer people we recommend calling and asking about our 22-foot Pathfinder. This bay boat is well built to get to the spots quickly and safely. It can hold in shallow water to sight cast with top water plugs and or bait to make it more “hands on” to our anglers.
Last, I would like to remind everyone that the 31 Yellowfin has Federal Gulf Permits. This is a big advantage for our clients to go fishing where others cannot! Fishing the Towers, Shrimp Boats, and reefs in the gulf produce a ton of action and big fish! The black fin tuna off the shrimp boats are BIG reaching world record weights! Along with tuna we find an abundance of Bonita, snappers, goliath groupers, permit, sharks, and cobia. These trips are going to be full days. Since fishy business charters purchased the permits last year the feedback has been nothing but positive. Reviews like “I couldn’t reel in another fish if I tried”, “my arms are burning” , ” I cannot believe the action” . If you have fished Key West a bunch and want to try something new or are a first timer that wants to get the best odds of an epic trip this is the fishing charter for you!
